MPI is a national sponsor and partner of Seaweek, an annual event that encourages New Zealanders to learn about and take responsibility for the sea. Seaweek promotes awareness and understanding of what it takes to have healthy marine environment, which aligns with MPI's work to enable sustainable fisheries use while protecting the marine environment.
Hosted by the NZ Association for Environmental Education (NZAEE), Seaweek events will take place throughout New Zealand from 3 to 11 March 2018.
MPI is a proud sponsor of the 13th Australasian Plant Virology Workshop (APVW). The workshop provides a forum for scientists from Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world to share updates on their research relating to plant viruses, viroids, phytoplasmas and similar pathogens.
The 13th Australasian Plant Virology Workshop is being held on Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf, Auckland, New Zealand from 20 to 22 February 2018.
MPI is sponsoring the 15th International Symposium on Aquatic Plants. The event brings researchers from around the world together to discuss science and management of freshwater aquatic plants. The 3 themes for the 2018 event are:
- biodiversity, conservation, and bio-monitoring
- management and invasive plants
- ecosystem response and restoration.
The event will feature a one-and-a-half day session on invasive aquatic plants, which links in with MPI's focus on biosecurity.
MPI is proud to once again sponsor the New Zealand Petfood Manufacturers Association annual conference.
This is New Zealand's only event for pet food manufacturers. The conference aims to educate members about compliance issues, improve industry productivity, and develop business and exports. It enables pet food manufacturers and their suppliers to network and develop stronger working relationships with MPI.
The conference is being held at Sudima Hotel and Conference Centre, Auckland from 15 to 16 February 2018.
MPI is once again supporting the Young Enterprise Trust’s Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme.
The programme is held annually and helps secondary students to develop their business potential as entrepreneurs. It provides real-life experience with running a business, managing money and opportunities, and connects students with established business people. In 2017, MPI will be supporting the Food and Fibre category.
The awards ceremony will be at TSB Bank Arena in Wellington.
MPI sponsored the Asian-Australasian Conference on Precision Agriculture, which was one of the 3 conferences featuring at the International Tri-Conference for Precision Agriculture in 2017.
The event featured a one-day programme for New Zealand primary sector practitioners. This provided hands-on education with new digital agriculture technologies. Presentations focused on diversity and advancement, automisation, hands-free robot fields, and proximal and remote crop sensing.
The venue for the conference was the Claudelands Event Centre in Hamilton.
MPI is a sponsor and programme partner of the Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme, which is run by the New Zealand Rural Leadership Trust. The programme works at developing leaders for rural and agri-food sectors. Its main focus is on building leadership ability, confidence, and critical thinking skills, and on understanding economic, environmental, and industry contexts.
The programme is run 2 times each year. The deadline is 16 October 2017 for the January 2018 programme, and 19 March 2018 for the June 2018 programme.
MPI is a sponsor and programme partner of the Nuffield Farming Scholarship, which is run by the New Zealand Rural Leadership Trust. The programme offers entrants a global learning experience, with a focus on leadership, collaboration, networking, and mentoring. It is a part of an international agri-food network which promotes a global outlook for the sector.
The scholarships award ceremony will be held at the New Zealand Parliament, in Wellington.
MPI has sponsored Doug Avery, a well-known New Zealand farmer, to trial a series of short videos. The videos will share Doug’s experiences with getting through tough times, and encourage farmers to adopt new farm management practices. They’ll promote resilience, and encourage farmers to prepare for future agriculture challenges. These are presented under Doug’s brand, Resilient Farmer.
